Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto and EVP & President of Advanced Materials Company LG Chem Dong Choon Kim and delegates met to discuss opportunities and challenges in the electric vehicle sector, and potential cooperation and investment by LG Chem in Indonesia. The meeting is part of efforts to accelerate the achievement of the 31.89% greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction target by 2030. According to Airlangga, Indonesia needs LG Group's support in the development of the electric vehicle ecosystem and, more broadly, in the development of clean energy. Airlangga and Vice President Kim agreed that there is still great potential for the development of electric vehicles in Indonesia.
According to Vice President Kim, Indonesia will always be LG Chem's strategic partner, especially in the green industry sector, for example, the construction of an electric vehicle battery cell factory in West Java, a collaboration between LG Energy Solution and Hyundai. Currently, the construction has reached the second stage with a capacity of 20 GWh. Furthermore, LG Chem offered potential cooperation in the field of biodegradable plastics, which was welcomed by Airlangga. This reaffirms the commitment of the Indonesian government to open up investment opportunities in various clean energy projects. In addition, Indonesia's palm oil to sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) processing sector has great growth potential, and LG Chem expressed interest in jointly developing SAF in Indonesia. This meeting further strengthens the strategic cooperation between Indonesia and LG Chem in the clean energy sector and electric vehicle industry, paving the way for mutually beneficial cooperation in the future.
