Mangosteen exports from Bali experienced a significant spike in the period from December 2024 to February 2025, with a volume increase of 395% compared to the previous year. The Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin) through the Bali Animal, Fish, and Plant Quarantine Center (Bali Quarantine) continues to strive to strengthen quality standards in order to maintain this positive trend. "From quarantine certification data, Bali mangosteen exports in the period from December 2024 to February 2025 reached 269 certificates with a total volume of 745.3 tons. The export value is estimated to reach IDR 62.8 billion," said the Head of Bali Quarantine, Heri Yuwono, in a written statement.
Although 70% of Bali mangosteen exports are still dominated by the Chinese market, this tropical fruit has also penetrated global markets such as Germany, the Netherlands, Timor Leste, Russia, France, Spain, Hong Kong, Czech, and Italy. One of the main reasons China is a major export destination is its price competitiveness, even though the country has strict requirements, such as packing houses that must be registered with the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China (GACC) and other quarantine treatment standards. To ensure compliance with export regulations, Bali Quarantine actively provides socialization and education to mangosteen packing house business actors. This training includes the process of cleaning the fruit, packaging, and mitigating the risk of attacks by Quarantine Plant Pest Organisms (OPTK). To date, 10 packing houses have successfully obtained registration from GACC, while the number of registered mangosteen plantations has reached 68 locations. “We continue to encourage the acceleration and increase of Balinese mangosteen exports by ensuring traceability and compliance with the standards of the destination country. Quarantine education is key to ensuring that exported commodities meet the requirements,” concluded Heri Yuwono.
