Indonesia’s footwear exports surged to USD 5.16 billion between January and August 2025, up 11.89% from USD 4.61 billion in the same period of 2024, according to the Ministry of Industry. The leather, leather goods, and footwear sector grew 8.31% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2025, surpassing national economic growth of 5.12%. Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita stated that Indonesia’s footwear industry continues to demonstrate strong competitiveness and potential across global markets.

Currently ranked sixth in global footwear exports, Indonesia’s main destinations include the United States, the European Union, and several other countries. With 53,333 small-scale and 737 medium- to large-scale footwear businesses employing over 730,000 workers, the sector plays a vital role in the national economy. To further boost competitiveness, the Ministry inaugurated the Indonesian Footwear Industry Empowerment Center in Sidoarjo, East Java, aimed at improving industry standards and skills under the New National Industrialization Strategy (SBIN), Indonesia’s industrial roadmap through 2045.
