The Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin), through the Banten Quarantine at the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Service Unit, ensured that the export of 100 kilograms of Kratom (Mitragyna speciosa) to India had met the requirements. Head of Banten Quarantine, Duma Sari said that the 100 kilograms of Kratom were worth IDR 50 million, and were the first exports to India. In accordance with the provisions of Law No. 21 of 2019 and PP No. 29 of 2023, exports of plants and plant products must be accompanied by a Phytosanitary Certificate (PC). And plant quarantine measures are also carried out in order to fulfill the requirements of the destination country. Duma further explained, referring to the Regulation of the Minister of Trade Number 21 of 2024 concerning Export Policy and Regulation, kratom can be exported in powder form.
"And crushed leaves with a size of > 30 mesh or ≤ 600 microns, with regulatory instruments in the form of Registered Exporters (ET), Export Approval (PE), and Surveyor Reports (LS)," he explained, Saturday, April 19th, 2025. He said that all commodities that will be sent abroad must meet the technical and administrative requirements of the destination country and are guaranteed to be free from quarantine plant pests. "After being inspected, this 100 kg of kratom was declared fit for export," said Durma. He explained that plant quarantine certification services for the export of kratom products can be provided after receiving an Import Permit or other official documents issued by the competent authorities in the destination country and the applicant has met the ET, PE and LS requirements. This initial export is a positive initial step for business actors in expanding the herbal commodity market abroad. "Banten Quarantine is committed to continuing to assist and facilitate the export process to ensure the quality and safety of commodities from upstream to the exit of Indonesia," he said.
