In July 2024, the Balikpapan Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) reported that the city's total export value reached USD 518.27 million, marking a positive increase of USD 44.18 million or 9.32% compared to June 2024. This surge was primarily driven by significant increases in exports to several major destination countries. Marinda Dama Prianto, Head of BPS Balikpapan, highlighted that the notable rise in exports was due to substantial growth to specific countries. Exports to Singapore saw a remarkable rise of USD 53.50 million or 1,192.40%, Malaysia recorded an increase of USD 33.71 million or 233.64%, and India experienced an uptick of USD 15.90 million or 40.47%.
Cumulatively, from January to July 2024, China remained the top export destination from Balikpapan, contributing USD 894.61 million or 25.70% of total exports. The Philippines followed in second place, with exports valued at USD 621.80 million or 17.86%, and India was third, with USD 357.60 million or 10.27%. Despite the significant monthly increase in July, Marinda noted that compared to July 2023, the total export value in July 2024 decreased by 5.61%, from USD 549.09 million to USD 518.27 million. This decline is also reflected in the cumulative export data from January to July 2024, which totaled USD 3,481.54 million, a decrease of 10.58% compared to the same period in 2023.
