Indonesian Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Syahrul Yasin Limpo invites young farmers to apply smart farming technology in the development of agricultural cultivation.
According to him, technology-based agriculture will simplify the cultivation process because it is more efficient and modern in order to accelerate farmer production.
"Smart farming is a leap that we are trying to take to not let agriculture run as it is the same as yesterday. It doesn't mean yesterday was bad but there must be a jump," said Syahrul in a statement received, Tuesday (21/3/2023).
According to him, future agricultural development will increasingly rely on young farmers with digital technology, especially as a strategy to strengthen production and distribution.
"Young agripreneurs who are literate in technology are potential and strategic partners to solve distribution problems and weak farmer market access so far," he said.
Syahrul also emphasized that his party continues to strive to prepare agricultural human resources with an entrepreneurial spirit.
One of them is through the Ministry of Agriculture's main program to grow 2.5 million millennial agricultural entrepreneurs by 2024.
Meanwhile, the Agricultural Human Resources Extension and Development Agency (BPPSDMP) held training on smart farming and people's business loans (KUR) for millennial farmers, especially beneficiaries of the Youth Entrepreneurship and Employment Support Services (YESS) program.
The Head of the Agricultural Human Resources Extension and Development Agency (BPPSDMP), Dedi Nursyamsi said that young farmers are the successors to future agricultural development.
"President Jokowi has said that farming must be a promising profession, a prosperous profession, and we must make the younger generation more interested in becoming farmers," he said.
Apart from that, Dedi said there were several keywords from what the President and Minister of Agriculture said, namely young farmers and digital technology.
"BPPSDMP is ready to support and follow up on these directions by building a millennial farmer ecosystem that manages agriculture in an integrated manner from upstream to downstream, as well as continuing to increase the growth of young entrepreneurs in agriculture through various programs, one of which is through the Youth Entrepreneurship and Employment Support Services (YESS) Program. ," said Didi.
