The West Java Department of Industry and Trade (Disperindag) noted that the prospect of the food and beverage industry continues to show positive developments and makes a greater contribution to national economic growth. This is the background for the 2022 Food Ethnic or Food Diversity Festival. In collaboration with the Bandung International Food & Hospitality Expo (BIFHEX), Food Ethnic has been taking place from 8-10 June 2022 at Sudirman Grand Ballroom Bandung with the theme "Developing Diversification of Processed Food Products Based on Carbohydrates and Proteins." Head of the West Java Industry and Trade Agency, Iendra Sofyan, said that the implementation of Food Ethnic 2022 is one of the efforts made by his party to encourage the development of potential local food processing, as well as efforts to diversify food processed products in West Java. "The implementation of this festival is a form of encouragement and support for the development of small and medium-sized industries (IKM) made from local raw materials in West Java," he said Sunday (19/6/2022). According to him, Food Ethnic 2022 is held to further intensify the development and diversification of food and processed products using local ingredients. "The purpose of this activity is to increase the diversification of food and processed products made from local raw materials and to raise awareness that buying IKM products means boosting the economy in West Java," said Iendra. Iendra said that there were 3 competitions in Food Ethnic 2022, including an exhibition stand competition which was participated by 24 Regency/City stands, a cooking competition which was participated by 24 Regency/City PKK, and a packaging competition with 23 IKM participants proposed by Regency/City. The winners of the exhibition stand competition are Bandung City, West Bandung Regency and Bogor City. The winners of the Cooking Contest were TP PKK Bandung City, TP PKK Majalengka Regency and TP PKK Ciamis Regency.
The winners of the packaging competition were Sweet Potato "Cuneng" from Bandung Regency, Snack Stick, Puff and "Rainbow" Noodles from Bogor City, Organic Flour "Gasol" from Cianjur Regency and Seblak "Boboko" from West Bandung Regency. "Hopefully in the future, we can continue cooperation with PT Indorich Expo Utama in the context of West Java's economic recovery," he said. Meanwhile, the Regional Secretary of West Java Province, Setiawan Wangsaatmaja conveyed that there were three messages from West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil regarding Food Ethnic 2022. According to him, this is an activity carried out in order to explore local potential, must be able to innovate and develop a new product. "Not only the type of food, but also packaging and marketing because of the onslaught of foreign food and beverage products that enter Indonesia, and do not until local products lose in the country," he said. According to him, there are several long-term steps that must be taken in an effort to develop food, including improving the quality of food products (in terms of nutritional value, taste, product appearance, food safety, and packaging). "Then develop various alternative food products, improve the quality of rural human resources in commodity-producing areas in terms of product processing, promotion and marketing," he said. Business actors are also required to develop marketing networks through partnership activities between farmers and related parties in marketing activities (shops, stalls, distributors), as well as local food consumption movements that are in synergy with policies and promotion of local food development, both in the food service industry. (hotels and restaurants) as well as in shops, stalls, and distributors. The food and beverage industry is one of five pilot industries for the implementation of the fourth industrial revolution or industry 4.0 in Indonesia. Iendra added that the fruit and vegetable processing industry can increase the added value that has been sold in fresh form. In addition, it can encourage increased income of farmers, both individuals and groups in the form of community plants to provide fruit and vegetables as raw materials. "More than that, the fruit and vegetable processing industry can also grow related industries/services, provide business opportunities and absorb labor," he concluded.
